We have a 3 day weekend here.
Queens birthday or some such madness.
I don’t really care, all I know is I don’t have to work on Monday so it’s a 4 day week, and that’s a good thing.
Thus far my weekend has consisted of a Skype call, Facebook, eating, Facebook, shopping, Facebook, sleeping, and just for something completely different, you guessed it…..Facebook!
I have not struck a blow in the house, nor done one piece of washing, however I do have some wicked t shirts, a game of Celebrity Head, 2 new Akubras, half a dozen hat pins, new fluffy feet and socks, I’ve been and gorged on Indian food for dinner last night, imbibed in more than a few bourbon and cokes, plus I bought Lucas his 1st birthday present for Tuesday {yes, he’s 1 already, hard to believe I know} and the newest James Patterson book for me.
All in all I think it’s been quite a productive weekend, and now I’ve added a post to it as well!
When you look at it that way, I’ve been quite busy haven’t I??
For now I’m a little weary after reading that great long list of things I’ve done, so a nanny nap may be in order I think.
*yawn*

Facebooking, across the universe!

With the start of a 4 day weekend only 12 hours away, it occurs to me that I’ll be cooking, feeding, breeding, farming and creating cities on Facebook most of the time
Yes, I have a serious addiction to the biggest social networking site I’ve ever encountered.
When I say a serious addiction, I mean a serious addiction.
I have 2 farms, a cafe, a city and a huge fricking zoo.
The zoo is the worst although I have been known to make Mark wait to go shopping because I had food close to ready for serving in my cafe.
That went down a treat let me tell you!

So, the zoo.
I’m obsessed with breeding animals in order to get to the next level.
Don’t even go near what state of mind I was in when I only had one dik-dik!
I couldn’t breed because I only had that 1, and I couldn’t even progress to the next level because I needed at least 3 of the little suckers, and the only way to get them is to adopt them.
Ever tried adopting a dik-dik??
Not an easy task I can assure you.
Dik-diks are a much sought after creature let me tell you, and in fact there was an entire conversation on my wall about my lack of dik-diks!
Then when I struggled with my American Big Horns, the only way I could get more was to breed them.
Do you have any idea of how long it takes a big horn to mature???
**covering mouth with hand and snickering**
Oh yes my friends, I’m like a woman possessed and have a serious addiction!
Perchance you’re on FB and I’m not your friend, feel free to add me, but remember.
You have to start a zoo, because if I can get another 2 zoomates I’ll have a 9th nest and that means I can breed more, which makes my zoo bigger, which makes it worth more, which…never mind…you get the picture!

Behind the scenes

I’ve been looking for a premium theme for some time, with little success until recently when I purchased one.
Well, the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray they say, and it would seem the same can be applied to women.
I’ve had to enlist the help of my very own blogging goddess, who is also having some trouble she tell me, so if that’s the case I’m sure I would still be working on it this time next year if it’s giving her problems, trust me.
In the mean time, I’ve been trawling the internetz looking, and waiting for something to grab me, and today it did.
The irony here is that is was on the WordPress site!
I rarely go there looking for themes because not a lot of them grab me ordinarily, and searching through them can be quite tedious, but these days you can search by tags and descriptions so it’s not too bad.
Me, being me, wanted a customisable header, so that’s what I went for.
Lo and behold a theme jumped out at me!
It’s wicked!
Really wicked!
I’m currently futzing with it to get it right and hope to have it done by the end of the weekend, and will launch it with my Malarky Monday post, if not before.
The biggest surprise of all, to me anyway, is that it’s only 2 columns.
I always, always, go for 3 columns, but this is different for some reason, plus it’s fluid width which is just a bonus.
So that’s going to be the best part of my weekend methinks.
There is much happening that you can’t see, but all will be revealed in the fullness of time as it generally is.
It’s flogging down rain here, so there is little else to do anyway, and a new theme always brightens my day a little.

A serious addiction

I spend hours on the net, and when I say that, I mean serious hours.
Anyone who knows anything about me will realise that every morning I turn on my laptop before my eyes are open properly.
Before I pee, even before I put the kettle on.
THE only thing I do before I turn it on is get out of bed.
Literally.
Mark turns the news on, I turn the laptop on.
*shrug*
It’s simply the way it is.
I’m a bit of a night owl too, so most nights find me with laptop firmly planted and me trying hard to catch up with all that has been happening while I was at work.
In my early blogging days, I would comment on every single post anyone on my blogroll had done, and then some.
{This new job has kicked my arse since I started and I’ve been slack since then, I know, but I’m working hard on changing that}
I’ve seen blogs come and go, started over, started other new blogs for people, seen others delete and have decided this is simply the nature of blogging.
The very last thing I do before I go to bed is check my email before turning my baby off.
I have Twitter, Facebook, Skype, God only knows how many blogs, thousands of items coming into my reader, plus I stumble, I read, I wander, and so the list goes one, but I’m sure you get the drift of what I’m saying.
If it can be done on the net, I’m there!
There is a point here, so stay with me {actually, it’s a question}
When does this type of thing become a time waster?
When does it become a problem?
I don’t have a family at home to worry about, there is only Mark and I, so that’s not a consideration.
I’ve turned doing housework into something compatible with surfing, so even that doesn’t count.
Hell, you should see me fly through a few items in my reader as I zip past with the vacuum cleaner.
It’s a thing of beauty, and an art I have perfected!
I can Skype, chat with 3 people, do a post, and watch TV all at the same time.
Until recently I was heavily involved with a bloggers forum {we closed it down due to lack if traffic} I look after my blog, Marks and several others, plus I’m always on the look out for new ideas.
I own more domain names than you can poke a stick at, and one day every last one of them will be hosted somewhere, for some purpose.
I’m particularly lucky in that I have a {long suffering} and indulgent husband who never complains about the time, nor the money I spend in pursuit of my hobby.
Because that’s what it is to me.
A hobby.
It’s broadened my mind, and my horizons.
Blogging has been responsible for us meeting some of the most wonderful people a person could ever wish to have in their lives, it brings the world closer, keeps me in touch with family thousands of kilometers away, and amuses me no end with it’s infinite wonders.
I don’t see it as a problem at all, but I know that’s not always the case.
There are some who have been hurt immeasurably by the internet because of some strange happenings, people have been stalked and harassed, and of course, there are the sickos who inhabit cyberspace, so don’t get me started there.
Overall I see it as a way of staying connected with family and friends and the rest of it, such as blogging and all of those things are an added bonus that I happen to enjoy.
How about you?
I realise there may be some like myself who are, quite frankly, addicted, and then there are others who seem to come and go like the wind.
Where do you fall in this?
Addicted?
