So we’re nearly done.
I say this not to make people sad, it’s more for me to psych myself up for what must be done on Friday.
We’ve had a holiday that will be remembered for a long, long time though because the past 3 weeks have been wonderful.
No other word comes close to saying what I mean.
We’ve been to some brilliant places, seen some fantastic sights, sweated in the heat some days, and almost frozen our butts off some nights {well, I did anyway, others fared a little better!}
The food has been incredible, the scenery and terrain delightful and the company nothing less than perfect.
We have the remainder of today, all of tomorrow and the best part of Friday before we leave though, and I can assure you, we will absolutely be making the most of that time.
Later today I will do some cooking and baking {have to leave some Anzac biscuits!} and into Boston for some more fun tomorrow, then tomorrow night we’ll hang at home, eat some good food, start a firepit, then laugh and reminisce about our time here.
There will be laughter, and some tears, but we will finish as we started.
Around the fire pit drinking and just generally enjoying each others company, because that’s what it’s all about.
It’s well and good to go out or away, but it all boils down to good friends just enjoying each other.
I know there are people nodding their heads in agreement as they read that last line, because it’s the truth.
Nothing compares to good friends getting together, and nothing can stop it happening, not even geography.
Maybe we would like it to happen a little more, but we all take what we can when we can.
It’s the only option we have.

In the shower this morning, I was thinking about how cold mornings and hot showers are a match made in heaven, which lead to the though there are some things just made for each other, thus the post.
Yes, my head is still all over the place!
*sigh*
I figured I may as well make use of it, so I put this little list together.
Please feel free to add your own, or even disagree with any you see.
On the food front alone, these come immediately to mind:

Lamb and rosemary – delightful!
W{h}ine and cheese – many are unaware the cheese cleanses your palette for the next mouthful of wine
Eggs and lettuce – is there anything more delightful than smashed bum nuts with crispy lettuce??
Bananas and sugar – a banana sandwich just isn’t the same without sugar sprinkled on it
Tomatoes and onions – one just seems to compliment the other like nothing else does {ask me about my tomato and onion pie!!}
Celery and peanut butter – odd, and yet strangely well suited for some reason
A cold winters day and a thick steaming bowl of homemade soup – how can you go wrong there??
Fresh made pumpkin soup with cream dolloped on top – how do you not use the cream?? Never mind the so called calories, you just gotta use the cream!
Fresh from the bakery bread and cold creamy butter slathered on top {and for an Aussie, some Vegemite on top of that!} – is there another sensation like it??
Fresh basil pesto and chicken – the different textures just go so well together don’t they?!
Tomatoes and pasta – the basis of any truly spectacular pasta dish. Cream is good, yes, but the visual of the red, ripe tomatoes with the starkness of the pasta is one to behold
On that note, for a truly stunning visual, try squids ink pasta with the same sauce – seriously, that is a match in heaven
Scones with jam and cream – add a hot, strong, sweet cup of tea and you will think you’ve died and gone to heaven!
Hot dogs and tomato sauce – a dog is not a dog without that tomato sauce!

On a more personal level, try these on for size:
Children and Santa Claus – I know, not the reason for the season, but the wide eyes as they see him for the first time when they understand who he is? Priceless!
Cold bed sheets on a cold night – strange for someone who hates the cold, but they go so well together it was impossible to leave them off of the list
The aforementioned cold morning and hot shower – heaven to me!
On the other end of that spectrum, a cold swimming pool on a hot summers day – again, heavenly
Fathers and their daughters – they {ordinarily} have a bond quite unlike any other, unless you want to add grandfathers and granddaughters. Now that indeed is made in heaven! Yes, a father and son is a good match too, but with daughters, it’s different as I’m sure the fathers of daughters will tell you
A brilliant summer day coupled with a BBQ {and preferably good friends} – a true Aussie tradition that I’m sure we can all relate to?
Red roses and a crystal vase – there is nothing that showcases a true rose other than crystal
The nook of your husbands/wifes/partners shoulder – if a more comfortable, satisfying match exists, I’ve yet to find it, unless it’s their back and they softly sleep beside you

Whilst some of these could be construed as the pleasures of life, I disagree.
All things mentioned just go with one another, and one is complimented by the other.
Without the other, they’re just simple pleasures.
With each other, they’re so much better in my opinion.
As I said, please feel free to add, discuss or pull apart.
Different ideas make the world go around.

Indeed, it’s that time of the week when myself, Michael, Mark and DILLIGAF band together trying to titillate, tempt and tease you into some of the wittier little snippets life has to offer.
My first offering this week is some word play.
I’ve always said there are some very clever people in the world, and this merely serves to reinforce that notion.
Gotta love people with imagination, yes?

I’m hoping that Christmas was fabulous for the both of you and all the family.
We so enjoyed the Skype call on Christmas Eve!

This week Malarky Monday is brought to you by the Christmas fairy.

He may not be a happy Christmas fairy, but he is a Christmas fairy all the same.
Also, we have a guest appearance for you to giggle over!
DILLIGAF has graciously agreed to join the mayhem that is MM, and has an absolute blinder for us!
I nearly bloody choked when I heard this, and it gives the 12 days of Christmas a whole new meaning, trust me!

Given Christmas is almost upon us, I’ll stick with the seasonal snippets because there are just so many of them around.
Trying to pick the ones to post was my problem, and I can only hope you enjoy them.

Our inner child

Someone made mention of their inner child recently.
Given the time of year, I thought it would be a good idea to explore the things our inner child could do during the festive season.
Who knows, you may find yourself actually enjoying the season rather than dreading it.
These are but a few of the activities which occurred to me.
Go look at the Christmas lights.
Not only is it free, but it will make the adult in you glad you don’t do it because you don’t have to pay the power bill.
Get a body board and head to the beach for some fun in the surf.
There is nothing makes you feel better than tumbling through the surf then screaming like a little kid when you get dumped.
Perchance you have snow, get a toboggan or sled and find the biggest hill you can, then throw caution to the wind and fly down it like the 7 devils are after you.
I’m sure you did it as a kid, why not now?
Eat the decorations off the tree when noone is looking, then deny, deny, deny!
It’s such fun.
The worst that can happen is you get busted and grounded, so then you don’t have to go to work. Bonus!
All the more time to work on those edible hangy thingies on the tree anyway!
String popcorn for the tree.
This was one of my favourite things to do when I was a kid.
Nothing has changed, I still love doing it.
Get a tin whistle then run up and down the street blowing it.
Go to the movies and spend the entire time giggling at the teenagers swapping spit in the back row.
Find a slide then go down it as many times as you can in the shortest possible time.
Play on a seesaw while you’re at it.
Go buy a yoyo and see if you can still walk the dog.
Preferably one of those crappy plastic ones you get in junk stockings.
Get a hula hoop and give it a go.
It will be a damned good cardio vascular work out at the same time!
Wander around the streets after the stores close and look at their displays.
Some of them are brilliant, and damned well done.
There are a million and one things you would do at Christmas when you were a kid, so why not now?
I guess my point is this.
Forget about the responsibility and hassles of Christmas and do what kids do best.
Embrace it, enjoy it and make the most of it.
Just for one day.
Try and see it through the eyes of a child.
Who knows, maybe it will hep you see things a little differently?

Monday mayhem is about to begin once again.
I won’t go on too much this week, other than to say, do yourself a favor and watch this.
I’m a bit of a closet Muppets fan, I am a HUGE Queen fan, and Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my all time favourite songs.
{I think I like it because trying to imagine the cocktail of drugs there were on is so much fun! }
When I came across this I howled with laughter so hard I nearly wet myself, and, of course, my first thought was MM.
This is just too good not to share with everyone.

Indeed, the time has come when we make a small attempt to brighten your lives with a little giggle, or, if we’re lucky, a damned good belly laugh.
This week I have a small joke for you in honour of that wonderous time of year we know as Christmas.

Monday is upon us, once again.
{damn that “C” word is looming fast isn’t it??}
Yes, it’s time for us to try and make you chortle, snortle or maybe even pee in your widdle pantaloons.
My Malarky Mondays have been generating quite a lot of traffic, but few comments, so it seems people come, then they either laugh or cry and leave again without saying anything.
Go figure!
This week, my malarky is dedicated to stupid people.
100%, totally, hopelessly stupid!
Have a look and all will be revealed, very quickly.

Stupid people I mean.
They have heads on them like bloody mice.
On the positive side, they are handy for a damned good laugh on a Monday, so I should be grateful I suppose!
